Trombone Practice Mutes

Hello everyone, hope you all are doing well.

Well i wanted to ask about this new UpMute for trombone.

Have anyone used it yet?

Or any of Stomvi trombone mutes?

I'm tempted to buy it, but wanna see if there is any feedback, before i spend $120.

I have SshhMute, Cheap Amazon Mute, Yamaha Silent Brass Both styles and Jo-Ral Pratices mutes.

The cheapy and silent brass both fit in the case but ehh.

The SshhMute is bulky and can't travel in my case. So that's why the UpMute has my attention.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Rejano Mute fits on your bell, works great, and it's cheaper...

Just stumbled across these today on a video from a trombonist from Spain. They are supposed to be light weight and free blowing....but aren't they ALL supposed to be?

They all claim to be, and all claim to quiet enough to let people sleep. But nobody tells you that you now can't hear what you are doing, that there is some serious back pressure, and the intonation has gone wonky at the extremes of your range.

Some more than others.

Nothing is perfect.

I have not heard of the UpMute. I’ve used Wick, Best Brass, Yamaha Silent (gen. 1), and another one (can’t remember). I just bought a pair of Rejano mutes, one bass and one tenor, and I’m very pleased with them. Yes, they have problems at the extremes of range and dynamics. But they are better than any of the others I’ve played.

Very hard to center notes below staff and tuning is terrible, there’s also a buzz which is pretty loud

I’ve been thinking about buying one. Did they contact you and ask what horn it’s for after you ordered? Is it supposed to be one size fits all?

They fit if you shove it in super hard, like really really hard. They did not ask me what horns they were for, just what color. I think there’s something wrong with mine, especially the bass mute. They both have a ringing but on the bass the buzzing is louder than the noise produced from playing. I just bought a different bell so well see how it plays when i get that bell. I think i just got unlucky because other people say they work well with shires. Oh well, ive emailed them so hopefully i can get some better fitting ones

I got my mute stuck in my tenor... now that it’s not falling out every measure it’s pretty good. Intonation is a little wonky though

For my money, the best practice mute I've ever come across is the Wallace.

Just got my Rejano for my Bach 16M.

Great!....best practice mute I've ever owned and tried out, and I either own or have tried them all.

The closest thing to not having a mute in the bell at all. (....at least for me and my setup)

I don't normally like to or need to practice with a mute, but it's nice to know that I now have one that makes it possible to sneak some more time in at home without being 'shutdown' by family members who are kind of tired of the pandemic as it is!
