On a whim I Googled "tragic deaths of trombonists". Most links were to known events (natural deaths and suicides), but a few were quite bizarre.

The contest entry form said "Void where prohibited", so I peed on the Captain's desk.

Death is the only certainty we have in life. Some sad, shocking and bizarre deaths are bound to crop up in such a small portion of the population.

Yeah, one can only hope to die at old age having lived a rich life of a heart attack in one's sleep. Alas.
Tommy Dorsey did apparently die in his sleep, but from choking to death due to sleeping pills and vomiting. Yikes!

There was the guy who died playing 1812 after he tried to turn his mute into a rocket, and his trombone into a rocket launcher.

Slip-and-fall head injuries are pernicious things. I've witnessed an instance of a head injury that didn't seem life-threatening at first and yet was fatal a few days later.officermayo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 10:49 am https://slippedisc.com/2018/01/brass-wo ... principal/
At an advanced age you'd be better off to break a leg than bump your head.

And then, of course, there was this one.

This is one of those events I'll always remember where I was when I learned of it.

Even when they're not fatal, it can take some time for the full extant of the injury to manifest itself.robcat2075 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:52 pmSlip-and-fall head injuries are pernicious things.
