Bob Havens was indeed a fine trombonist. Still living in Quincy, Illinois at age 93!

He mentions teachers. I suppose one of them could have guided him to his embouchure. But I could imagine a teacher being sorely tempted to get him to change it. Thankfully, for whatever reason, he kept it and used it to all our benefit.
