Edinburgh, Scotland: jazz bar big band

Post by mikerspencer »

Hey all,

I fix the trombone section for the Monday night big band in Edinburgh's jazz bar (https://www.thejazzbar.co.uk/). I've a healthy roster of players to pick from, but am always happy to add more to the list.

There are about 400 charts in the pad, with plenty you'll not find anywhere else (Tubby Hayes, etc). Being a strong sight reader is a must!

Drop me a message if you're keen for a blow.

I'm American of Scottish descent with relatives in Edinburgh, and I would love to have that gig. :) On the link there is no info about the gig itself that I could find. I'd love to hear the band sometime! :)

It can be a funny website. Click on January and scroll down to the 8th.

We had a friend of the band play in Dec, they were visiting from Seattle. It's always good to see folk there.

The band is on every Monday, bar three weeks in August (Edinburgh festival season), Xmas day and Hogmanay/nyd.

I live in Sweden, but you're always welcome to call!

I play all the three main trombones.

If you want to add some charts to the repertoire, you're welcome to check out my web site: https://www.danieleng.com

Thanks digidog! Do you have recordings of the charts?

On my site, many of the charts that are for sale have short listening with the product information. Where there is listening, it should be seen as a small media-player bar under the title, at the top; otherwise there is a statment of "no listening currently available".

On the free, promotional charts, I still haven't had the time to make decent recordings to publish. Until I do take the time to produce anything audible of them, I think that the threshold for downloading those charts would be low since they, after all, are free. From a logical viewpoint, it should be regarded as risk-free to download and review a free chart.

If you haven't downloaded the free charts, I really recommend you to do so. They are serious products and by no means any easy-to-get-through pieces, lightly made to have something to offer. I also think they quite correctly display my style of writing and arranging, and I hope they can pique people's interest in the music I pen.

I also have charts for sale, but without knowing the styles covered by a band, I don't know what would be a good fit. Alas, Scotland is a bit of a hike if I were to sit in. Maybe back when I was in the military and stationed in Belgium. Still a hike, but not quite as much as now.

Thanks both, I'll take a look. We're pretty fortunate to have a large library already.
