Hi esteemed members,

I’ve been playing professionally for around 40 years now and a couple of days ago during a particularly heavy practice session I appear to have bust a blood vessel in my right eye!
It’s never happened before. Has it happened to anyone else here?

As I was entering the U.S. Army Band, one of the trombonists was on his way out the door. He was retiring from the band due to a medical condition. He was warned that if he continued to play trombone, the vibration of the horn would cause his optic nerve to deteriorate to the point that blindness would most surely be the result ! I never heard of that before ---- or since !

Just to provide a different perspective, the attached article shows how unlucky some brass players can be ! Consider yourself lucky !

That has happened to me, from a sneeze.. The white of your eye is largely red, right? It is nothing to worry about unless you have high blood pressure. I rushed to my opthamologist and that's the answer I got, it happens sometimes and it will gradually go away on its own. There's no treatment for it.

Unless it's INSIDE your eye and causes so many floaters that you can't see. That's different and you need to get to an opthamologist ASAP.

I did some research and ended up with what you have basically said..
I got some eye drops and will sit it out.

Happened to the trombone player next to me when I was in high school. He was doing push ups when it happened.

It happened to me the first time I got covid.

A bit of drift, but some good advice for aging eyes... sudden appearance of a new floater should warrant a trip to the eye clinic. In my case it was a retinal tear. Hence laser eye surgery the same day. If I had blown it off, the tear could have worsened. Ditto with starting to see a halo of light.
