I eveeryone,
I hope this is the right forum.
My Harmon Mute keeps falling out of my King 3b. All my other mutes are ok.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can make it stick better.
Thanks
Randy

Re: Harmon Mute
Have you tried dampening the cork?

Re: Harmon Mute
Get a file and carefully shave the cork down until it fits better. I’ve done it with my bass and large bore tenor Harmon mutes.

Re: Harmon Mute
I watched a friend once lightly apply violin rosin to his mute cork. Afterward, it stayed in the bell tenaciously and was difficult to remove. Worse, it frequently made a loud and shrill squeak when it came out.

I have used sax cork grease like that, in a pinch. A light spritz of water is usually plenty.

Re: Harmon Mute
Mine fits my large bore better than my 3bf, but I tend to only use it with the LB . As suggested before, adjust the corks, and/or dampen the cork, or just hold it in with left hand, which you can use for effects.

Dampen or cork grease. Grease will help preserve the cork and lengthen it's lifetime.
