AR Resonance leadpipe input

Post by heinzgries »

Hello,

i have an AR Resonance small shank mouthpiece. The shank goes only 19 mm into my 36. Bach leadpipe receiver.
I seems to me too little?

I just measured a few of my AR Resonance 6.0mm and 6.5mm shanks in one of my 78H pipes, and I get the same measurement - somewhere between 18-19mm. For comparison, my DE E4 shank inserts ~26mm into the same pipe. I haven't noticed any response problems with my AR pieces, nor any partial alignment issues. I'm not super familiar with Tony's backbore designs, but the shanks do seem shorter compared to other pieces I have.

Thanks for response. I have worked the shank with a lathe, but now the input is 23 mm. Otherwise the material will become to thin.

Antonio designs his mouthpieces that way on purpose. They have more core and center because of it. If you adjust it by removing material from the shank you’ll make it too thin and prone to easy damage. The shanks are already on the thinner side. I used to play on AR pieces for a while.
