Earl Strickler Trombone

Hello all,

I've been a lurker here for years and finally have something that I feel is worth posting about.

For some context, I've worked as a repair Technician for 15 years in NorCal. Roughly a month ago a customer dropped of a trombone that I just COULDNT identify straight away.

Eventually I was able to determine it is an Earl Strickler trombone (Yes, Strickler, not Williams). Earl worked for FE Olds as well as himself and made a few trombones. One of which you can see in an old Ed Sullivan Show clip (featuring Barney Lidell and Pete Lofthouse).

The instrument itself has been Relacquered at some point, No slide lock, traditional Bell tenon.

Markings: Bell Reads "E.S. Los Angeles, Cali." Small number engraved on slide receiving tenon "30" (I had to use a magnifying glass to read the three because of over buffing during its relacquer)

The instrument is definitely an early version, but I'm interested to know your thoughts! Any idea of Value? Is there more information about Earl Strickler than what little is available on the web?

I think the owner of that horn posted about it here, a couple of years ago. It just has ES on it, not his name.

I have a Strickler with the curved braces. It's about .495 bore. John Lowe has one like mine, with pictures on his website itsabear.com that features mostly Olds horns.
