"First Unread Post" button missing

Post by tbdana »

For some reason I'm not seeing the button inside threads to go to the "first unread post." Do I need to do something to fix it, or is it happening to others?

Might be related to the logout problem a couple people reported in this thread:

Could you post a screenshot of what it looks like?

Sure. It just looks like it has already been read. For instance, this thread was highlighted and has multiple new, unread posts. So, where is the button?

If I read a thread, then use the "back" button, the list of available threads still shows it as having unread material. The status doesn't change until I reload the page. Maybe you've actually read everything there?

I usually click on the "unread threads" link on the forum list. I didn't even know there was one in the topic, too.

Nope.

The second red arrow points to a red thingy that will take you to a thread and to the next post in it after the one that was last on the thread when you last viewed it, or the first unread in a thread. Bruce had to indicate this bit of secrecy for me.

That's funny, I don't see those red thingies, either.

EDIT: Never mind. I see that red thingy in the sub-menus. Got it. I'll try that.

Hm going to be honest, I did not even know that feature existed

I always just use my bookmark for unread posts:
search.php?search_id=unreadposts

You can also get there from the hamburger menu at the top left and pressing "Unread posts". If you keep having issues I can try to dig into what you're expecting to see

The first red arrow points to the highlighted speech balloons, which do the exact same thing as the red thingy. At least, in the Latte theme.

There used to be a button at the bottom of the "hamburger menu" that said "First unread post."
It's disappeared - but I don't miss it (since I never used it).

As Matt wrote, just go to "Unread posts" - you'll see them all, in chronological order.

For the last couple days here, the "speech ballons" button that should send me to the first unread post of the thread had been sending me to the first post most of the time. Odd. I thought my read/unread must have reset, but everything I had previously red through still shows up in brown, not green. :idk:

What I do is from the list of "Unread Posts" I will right click on the red thingy, open in new tab, do the same on another topic, then I'll have a bunch of new open tabs, one for each topic and the screen on the next post that I haven't previously read.

I do end up with dozens of tabs this way, so watch out.

I tried that and I ran out of memory. I guess 8 GB isn't enough for unlimited tabs.

Man, I remember when all you could put in a PC was 640K and a 32MB hard drive was the limit. I guess I'm OLD.
