Actually for some of us the factitious notes sound pretty close to half plunger anyway, so your solution is doubly good.
I listened to the recording and I hear the trombones play open. This means it probably is an editors misstake like Doug thought. Anyway it was a fun discussion and I got to learn something I didn't know, and that is the factitious notes (for me) are even easier with a plunger. And my fellow trombonists in the section had no clue what I was dealing with. Most smallbore tenor players here do not know much of the life of a bass trombone player. They didn't realize what I did until I told them, and actually that's good. It means they accepted what I was doing because they didn't think of the section playing as weak. I don't think I will tell them it likely is an editor mistake because it was fun to do .
