Nickel Silver Mouthpieces

Post by BrianJohnston »

Hi all, I’m wondering if any trombone mouthpiece makers offer nickel silver mouthpieces instead of brass. I know Lotus Trumpet mouthpieces offer this material as an option, but not sure I’ve seen trombone makers use this.

I had posted some time ago with the same curiosity, and forum ID muschem recommended AR resonance.
Someone knows any other brand?

AR Resonance mouthpieces are extraordinary. At least for me, rim is comfortable; slotting is more secure; higher and lower range both easier than with other mouthpieces; sound is full and pleasant. And yes, nickel-silver is an available material. I like the phosphor bronze. Haven't tried the titanium.

Does the external shape of a mouthpiece, and the corresponding variation in the overall mass of material, affect the performance of the mouthpiece, or is the design strictly cosmetic ?

Yes, blanks and materials make a difference.

Not just the mass, but how it is distributed.

:hi:

I've had some nickel backbores from AR Resonance that I've used in combination with tops of various materials (stainless, bronze, titanium) for the past year or so. But until last week, I hadn't tried a nickel top. Now, I have one for small bore tenor. I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but so far, I really like it. If you like nickel leadpipes, I think there's a good chance you'll like a nickel mouthpiece - same impacts on sound and response, but more pronounced effect being closer to the face.
