Stand lights
My Mighty Bright stand lights have failed me several times recently and I’m thinking I will have to replace them. All three, various models, seem to have failed at the switch. The newest of the three wouldn’t light up at the gig but the following day I opened its case and found it blazing away. But, yes, even after another battery change, it wouldn’t light up last night (it will run on AC but that isn’t workable due to the tripping hazard).
So, I’m off MB although it seems to have a near monopoly. I’m in the market for a battery operated LED, big enough to cover orchestral music.

Been using a Lotus Light for years...has never failed me. A bit pricey, though, so depends on your priorities. Aria also makes a great light.

Re: Stand lights
The Glocusent is a really good stand light, used successfully by my wife:

Apparently there's a newer version:

I have been happy using a different light:

Re: Stand lights
If there's a Lidl grocery store near you, for the past week or two they've had "Book reading LED light" that seems quite useful and a decent size and brightness, similar to.the Hammerhead but smaller... with a nice clamp... maybe use two... for $5 each. Small push button switch on the clamp next to the gooseneck, where it won't get turned on accidentally. Old micro-USB jack but it comes with a USB charging cable.
It looks good enough that I bought a dozen of them. I'll use them on 3 gigs next week, for the whole band, and see how long.they last on a charge.

It appears that Lidl has not made it west.
I ordered a Glocusent (never heard of this brand). Jeff will deliver it tomorrow (!). 57 LEDs, USC rechargeable. 4.7 rating. $50 CDN.
Heck of a deal.
Thanks for the recos.

Another great choice is this Vekkia light, ordered from the oligarch's website.
It keeps it's power for hours and hours. Absolutely so worries about it ever running low on a gig. Re-charges pretty quickly.
Very adjustable and you can change the color 'warmth'. I've had mine for about 4 years and it always works.
Many other uses around the home as well (reading, notation work, etc. etc.)

Re: Stand lights
I would think that the switch is the one thing that is almost always going to fail first on most stand lights. My mighty bright is still going strong, but I can see how the sliding switch would be a liability. It's a more simple circuit than a push button switch, so they probably will keep it as is to avoid additional costs.

I have the Aria Forte. Pricey and bulky, but it's a great light. Very reliable. Rechargeable. Super bright, with full range dimmer. Warm light tone that's easy on the eyes and provides excellent clarity. 36 hours per charge on half brightness where I use it. Doesn't shine into the audience. Covers the entire sheet music evenly across the stand. Best stand light out there IMHO.

Re: Stand lights
I like my old Super Giglight. I like how it folds up into a nice brick shape, with no sticky-outy bits. But recently, I found out its hinge isn't big enough to clip onto the thick lip of some Wenger stands. I don't know if the new "Max" model addresses this. I also wish I could use it with a folding wire stand.

Re: Stand lights
It's not a stand light, but I bought a Glocusent neck book light for my wife, and she is very happy with it. I don't know if you really get those 80 hours but we haven't recharged it after the first time. It has 3 levels of brightness on each of the limbs, and 3 levels of color temperature. I've been wondering if it would work for music. I'm usually on a tablet so I haven't tried yet.

Re: Stand lights
Looks like it would dazzle the conductor's eyes, and annoy the audience. You really need the light to come down from above.

I agree. This "book" light would be very annoying.AtomicClock wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 7:22 amLooks like it would dazzle the conductor's eyes, and annoy the audience. You really need the light to come down from above.
Glocusent makes a very good stand light.

Re: Stand lights
Been happy with this - extract in quotes below from Amazon.
FWIW, I had a previous version and mentioned in a review that the protruding on/off button would activate in transit or when being moved in storage, and run down the battery. They sent me an updated version where the switch is recessed. Problem solved.
