Does anyone have any experience with any brand of lyre that holds a phone? I'm thinking about picking up a bunch for the college pep band I direct, but didn't know if there was a specific brand I should be looking at.
The two that keep popping up are Grip-o-phone (sold on amazon) and ones from flip folder app

It looks like the parts all may be kind of crappy and not really withstand the beating of a college band that travels, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those look like they bring the music even closer than the standard lyre does. Ah, to have young eyes again!

They made this invention called "paper" that is much lighter than a phone and nobody cries when it hits the ground while marching around. Never runs out of batteries either.
Barely affects the bell or leadpipe when you snap your horn up, either.
I don't know, I know I'm being dumb here -- I kind of get using an iPad for music, but putting a phone on your horn doesn't really solve an existing problem. A phone is too small to fit normal folio music on the display, anyways.

For some gigs a phone is absolutely necessary rather than using a huge flip folder.

Agree to disagree.
In any case you guys must have good eyes to read music off a phone. Or humongous lyre sized phones.
Divisi parts on normal folio music already does my head in. Rant complete!

Or a belt pouch holding multiple flip folders. I remember seeing people subbing into Disneyland ensembles (the sax quintet, in particular) having to deal with those (the regulars had everything memorized). If you know what you're going to play in advance and can have all the charts organized into one or maybe two flip folders, fine - but if you need to have dozens of charts at your fingertips?
