Will modern Bach large shank fit in 88H Remington?

Post by TboneLeesMills »

Sorry to belabor the point from my other thread.

If my 88H is from the Remington shank era, will a modern large shank mouthpiece such as Bach or Schilke fit well enough (with or without tape)?

I am returning to trombone after a long hiatus and will only be playing casually, so perfection isn’t necessary!

Thanks

short answer is yes

long answer is it may depend on specific example of horn and mouthpiece. it may have a slight wobble or it may just sit flush. if it wobbles a bit, some tape will remedy that. In my experience, vast majority of large shank mp will happily seat into a remington shank receiver sturdily enough.

Remington shank is essentially just longer and less tapered than Morse so any Morse large will fit into Remington and wobble fixed with tape, but mouthpieces usually wont fit vice versa, unless you have one of those hybrids.
