Hot jazz (Dixieland, Traditional Jazz, New Orleans, call it what you will) has always been my main passion. However, you hear some very corny approaches to soloing on trombone, which I believe would put a lot of people off listening to this style of jazz. This YouTube is of Doug Finke soloing on "All By Myself" with the Bob Schulz Frisco Jazz Band - a fine band playing in that West Coast Style Traditional Jazz pioneered by Lu Watters and the Yerba Buena Jazz Band. Actually, I think it was Lu Watters who invented the term 'Traditional Jazz', which became shortened to 'Trad' in the UK.
I am a big fan of Doug Finke and he has me shouting "Yeah, Man!" on just about all of his solos. His ensemble playing is also superb:

I agree. Bob Schultz is a very fine cornet player, and Doug Finke plays outstanding trombone. Very good band overall.
