Dixieland fake books
I am looking for another Dixieland fake book. I have a few already. I have the Creole Jazz Band Real Book and the three Real Books.
We need a book that has both Bb and C.
Hoping that I will find tunes like
Basin Street
Bourbon Steet
Sunny side of the street
Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

(Transcribing jazz solos is fraught with difficulties because exact rhythmic notation is well-nigh impossible. So listen carefully because it's the only way to learn how to play jazz trombone so that we can return to the Golden Age.)

Re: Dixieland fake books
The book you'll want is: 'Dixieland Fake Book'; by David Littleford from Washington, DC (he's a legendary banjo player, etc. in the area)
But...you'll have to write him or find some way to contact him.
In the back of the book, there's an address for people to send payments:
American Music Caravan
6809 5th Street, NW
Washington, DC
20012-1905
Maybe write a letter to find out what's going on with the book. It was published in 2000. I hope it's still available because it's a fantastic resource.

Re: Dixieland fake books
Over the years, I have seen several posts about the 'Firehouse' that say there is a Bb version. But I have to admit I have never seen it.
Not that I need one myself because I always use the best version of a tune I can find in my big personal library, including the ones I have mentioned, and then put it into Band-in-a-Box. From there I can produce treble and bass clef and put it any key at the press of a button. Thus my best chord book is my own BiaB library built up over the last twenty five years. Band-in-a-Box has definitely replaced the old hand-written chord books I produced starting in the 1950s. But I keep them in my music library for old-times sake.

Re: Dixieland fake books
That Firehouse book is probably the best fakebook for that music out there.
That said, I wouldn't rely too much on any of those books - without proper listening and study of the recordings it's going to sound like cartoon music.

Re: Dixieland fake books
I have two huge bookcases containing all the music books I have purchased over the years. But I have to say that the best collection of tunes, particularly Dixieland, is my own Band-in-a-Box file collection. This is the best way to create a collection, and a simple procedure allows you to print in any key.
Plus BiaB is super for practicing on your own, especially in these pandemic times. It was very disappointing this week to have rehearsals cancelled once again due to new regulations in Queensland, Australia. Previously we had been back rehearsing for four weeks - with social distancing,of course!
