Shipping a trombone slide

Post by JLivi »

I recently purchased a King 3b at a reasonable price. My goal is to sell the slide separately and keep the bell. My question is, how would you pack a slide for shipping if/when someone purchased the slide from me? I'm thinking about wrapping the slide in bubble wrap a few times and then putting it in a box filled with peanuts or something to make sure that the slide doesn't shift around too much during shipment.

Any other ideas out there that are somewhat cost effective and simple?

I get Styrofoam sheets (one inch thick), cut them to slide width/length, and sandwich the slide in that. Then I get a box that is slide sized, that just fits the Styrofoam, and fill in the rest with packing material. I've shipped a bunch of slides this way

Don't forget to photograph/video your packing process and insure the shipment!

You may want to consider adding a flat piece of this wood to the top and bottom to resist folding. Slide doctor offers a nice custom made box for shipping too.
