Brass Instrument Expo?

Post by patrickosmith »

Not having done this before, I'm looking for ideas as to who to invite to the Brass Instrument Expo to be held on June 7, 2020 at Mechanics Hall, Worcester, MA 01608 in conjunction with colocated concerts featuring brass band, organ and soloists (Chris Martin, trumpet and Toby Oft, trombone).

We expect the demographic to include enthusiastic brass players & listeners, music educators, seniors, children and families. The planned Instrument Petting Zoo is likely to attract the young of heart. We anticipate a sold out concert event (1350 seats) and an overall audience throughout the day of between 1000 to 2000.

So far I've got on my list:
  • S.E. Shires
  • Osmun Music
  • Jupiter Band Instruments & XO Professional Brass
  • The Music Wagon LLC
Any other ideas or thoughts on who might be interested in a one-day / one-location Expo event like this?

I would come to exhibit mouthpieces. I already had it on my calendar.

Stir the pot a little bit and see if you can get Steve Shires to show off his new Stephens French horn.

Aaron Beck is making Lawson horns in Wellesley MA.

Virtuosity in Boston is a dealer for Edwards, Bach/Conn, Greenhoe. Maybe Yamaha as well?

Yamaha from the New York atelier.

B&S/Courtois from their New York shop.

Stork mouthpieces from Vermont.

I suppose there will be some French horn players present in the audience, but, this Concert/Expo is featuring British-style brass band music. We won't have any french horns on stage.

So far I've lined up the following:
Shires
Wessex
Buffet Crampon (includes Besson and many others)
Jupiter & XO
Osmun
Music Wagon

Are there any missing elements? Well yes, no schools, no ipads, no cases, no custom

You might consider talking with the organizers of HONK! and see who's interested. If you're shooting for that angle on things, of course--"brass band and organ" has a different connotation to me than "Rebirth Brass Band," even though the words are the same. :-)

There will almost certainly be French horn players on stage in the alto horns. (Okay, if you want British terminology, tenor horns.)

Getzen/ Edwards, Conn/Selmer, Buffet Crampon, M&W, Schilke. Ask everyone! I know I would be interested in going for Getzen/ Edwards especially with Toby Oft there.
