Do you name your trombones?

My entire trombone section has at my school, so yes I do, although I havent had my 88H long enough to name it yet

My Silver Sonic is Amy, my 606 for marching is Natalie, I haven't named my valve trombone since I rarely use it, and I'm already tryimg to come up with names that might be good for the large bore horm I'm going to be getting soon.

I name my trombones! And the baritone that I used for like six months. My old trombone's name is Catalina, my new one is Harpo. That baritone's name is Chico. And I need some help for bass trombone names! The hs band I'm in might get a double trigger bass trombone for me to play my junior year, and people after me, and I'm at a loss for a name! (Should it be a masculine name or a femine name? hm...)

I have a friend who named his trombone "Boner" and a friend who named his horn "Horny"  

My Yamaha is named Clara, and yeah haven't had my 88H for long enough to name it yet

My old Holton is Jack. I'm  getting a new one soon, though.
Here's a question: Are trombones masculine or feminine (in concern to naming) ?

Old Student Yamaha: Bruce
Intermediate Yamaha: James
88H: Connie (how original)
Soprano: Sexy (it's meant to be Connie and James' child but looks alot like bruce)
Conn/Bach custom bass: Ol' Ma Hubbard (used to be played by Arthur Hubbard)
Old old first horn: 'That piece of crap in the corner'

Any suggestions what to call my Elkhart 8h when i get it next week?

umm for bass names go with masculan names... mines name is Darth Vadar but thats me....

Maybe you could call it Irwin as a tribute to your recently departed countrymate.
I think the best name would be Flintoff (I'll leave the Yanks to work out why)

Did we not already have this poll?   Oh well, Iv'e changed my mine anyway.  I decided to name my Bach 42, my current concert and marching horn, Spartacus.   And when my Edwards comes in, I'll call it Maximus.

OK, I got a few names for my horns.  Let's see.....

Shires Bass - Zeus
Reynolds Bass - Hephaestus
Yamaha 682B - Apollo
Bach 39G - Hermes
King Liberty 2B - Hades
Conn 44H - Artemis
Conn 18H - Ares
Conn 14H - Dionysus

My friend had a trombone he called Susie Slushpump. My Shires is Mr. Shires, my Bach is anonymous. Another friend had a Bach 42B bell section and a Conn 88H slide--he called it his Coch  

Rachel - Conn 50H
Martin - Martin Imperial
Misty - Peice of Crap Bundy

I never named my trombones until a GF insisted.

My King became Roy
My Conn became Connie

I know not very imaginative.

I named most of my cars though.

Toyota Starlet --Mr Mota
Honda Civic--  Rita Hondita
Brown Volvo 240 Wagon-- Coco
Mazda Miata-Carmencita

Sold that Miata to my step-daughter.  She called it Fred at first but now calls it Carmencita Fred.

I had a VW New Beetle we called Bug but I probably would have come up with something else if I didn't have to give it to my ex.

both of my current cars lack names.

Mazda Miata 2000 SE (the one with the weird paint that looks maroon, brown, or purple depending on the light).

I have two trombones.

The 3B is the bucket.  The 36 is the beast.

A friend of mine has a 3B with some Conn parts, maybe even a Conn slide. It is a terrific horn, and we call it "King Conn".

Now that you mention it - I should name them...

I think I have some:

Student Yamaha = Lucky (I was going to play trumpet, but my director wanted at least ONE trombone in the band)

Bach = Rusty (You all should know why - I'm working on fixing that particular problem)

Stradivarious = Ranger

Bass Bone (can't remember model.... ) = Y-cubed (The first song I played on it was "Yeah, yeah, yeah")

I started out on the clarinet first, and was going to double on sax.

Then one year the band teacher said there were way too many clarinets and not enough trombones.....

My Yamaha 354 from 1986 was Timothy for a while.... I didn't use the name very long.

I don't name horns, but I'll refer to a horn I own as "my baby".

My students name their instruments. I should say this seems to have no relationship to how much they practice, how well they do in their lessons, or how well they play.

My computers have names.  Many computers in networks have names, and some people put great personal importance on those names.

I won't tell Patricia that you were making disparaging remarks about naming dishwashers, though.  And I'm glad that you referred only to coffee makers rather than French press pots, or else Fifi might be upset.

I had a boss, about 20 years ago, who gave all the gas chromatographs female names. It just goes to show how long we keep our equipment - we still have the one called Mavis!

I guess I should name all of my mouthpieces, too..........

Now that Brain has established that the non-living have feelings, I don't want the mouthpieces to feel left out!

My Trombone's name is Vint, He's old. My euphonium's name is Bell, or Belle

Trombones...mouthpieces...I also name my mutes!

...not to mention all of the stands in band, and the risers we use in jazz...my folders and chairs have names, too. I also name each note in a piece - they belong to the "immediate families" in each measure and the "extended families" up until each rehearsal number/letter.

...I can't remember my name for the life of me, though.

I hope he was referring to the name of the instrument only and not individual names for them!

Well, you know, he goes on and on about each one needing three different names, and so on.....

4B is the Tenor.
6B is the Bass.
3B is the Small Bore Tenor.
3B slide/5G bell is Small Bore Jazz Tenor.
euph is Das Euph.
Tuba, whatever it is (Yamaha YBB-641 or other) is Ubatay.
Sousaphones are Souzys.

The contrabass is "Gargantua", and the rest, This One, That One, The One in the Corner, The One in the Case, The One on the Stand, the One in the Closet. 

I have named both of my trombones. My Conn 18H I have owned since middle school and on a high school band trip I met and hung out with a beautiful girl named Connie... So after that trip my 18H became Connie. My Conn 88HO is named Conrad.

Back in high school my Bundy clarinet was Jim, my one piece silver clarinet (Pittfield, I'm too lazy to go look) was Amy.  My Old's valve trombone was Nancy and my Blessing B88 was Tim.  Real original I know....named after my band directors (Tim talked me into switching to bone) and their wives.

My Conn doesn't have a name.  I don't know why, got him in '98.  We name our trucks too, but I can't repeat them here in front of the children.  My friend names all his tubas.
