Who is playing the (Star Trek) trombone solo?

The incidental music for the whole series was burned into my brain at a young age. But I don't know anything about it.

I believe that music was scored for the episode "Amok Time" where Spock mistakenly believes he has killed Captain Kirk, then reused in this episode.
