I've been looking for a new horn, I've tried a few bachs and did not like them at all. Maybe they're just not the rare "magic" bachs, but nevertheless, not my jam. Anyway, I've been thinking about Greenhoes lately and was wondering how each of them plays and sounds. I heard that the GC series are more like Conns and GB series are more like Bachs, but do they sound and play differently? As in, would the GC4-1r have a smaller, mellower sound compared to the Bach-like GB4-1y, which might have a more powerful sound? Would they feel differently as well?
I currently play a stock Shires Q30GA and I enjoy the color and shimmer I can get without being too bright (my teacher describes it like the old, classic 20th C Conn sound), and also being able to play darker with that gold bell. However, I am not a fan of how the instrument feels as it's a bit restrictive (if that's the right word, and I already use the 3 lead pipe), making it hard to play clearly and slot. It feels like I'm working too hard for the sound. On the other hand, my experience with most of my Bach's has been restrictive in loud dynamics, and unforgiving slots, making it difficult to resonate on it. Also, I would try in person, but I am not in a position to fly around AND buy a horn, and I don't live near any dealers. Considering these things, what Greenhoe would you recommend (or if you recommend it all)? I want to be really careful as I know they are expensive.
Difference in sound and feel between the Greenhoe models?

Re: Difference in sound and feel between the Greenhoe models?
I haven’t had a chance to try the 2 Greenhoes back to back. But I tried a Greenhoe GC5-3R (red brass bell bass) once. Dark sound but with brilliance when pushed. Good sound and blow overall. But the thing that put me off is the weight of the slide.
