Recently (a few months ago) my lesson teacher lent me his Conn 6/1 AL-L to test. I enjoyed this mouthpiece and he said I sound much better playing on it in my higher range. Now that he needs it back I'm looking online for one and I haven't had any luck. I'm looking for some suggestions on mouthpieces that would feel similar and play about the same.

There are tons of them on eBay.

The Conn 6½AL was probably supplied with a Gen II 88H. This is pretty similar to the Bach 6½AL, although Conn versions are sometimes a little larger. The "-L" simply means a large shank.

You could start with a Bach, Faxx, or Kelly 6½AL mouthpiece.
Schilke 50 and Yamaha 48 are nominally the same size, but have different rims.
Same goes for the Wick 6AL, which may or may not work for you.

There are CKB mouthpieces around with the same nomenclature as the Bach sizes, but made just a tad larger. I don't think these are made any more but seem to be pretty common in the used market.

The (very common) Bach 6½AL large-shank mouthpiece is pretty much a clone of the Conn 6½AL-L.
Readily available from your local music store, Internet music stores, Amazon, eBay, etc.
If you can't fine one, contact me and I'll send you a spare from my personal collection at a reasonable price.

Conn and Bach have been in the same company for a long time. Probably merged before Conn had a 6½AL of its own. I wouldn't be surprised if it were made on the Bach equipment, to Bach's specs.

Faxx is cheaper, and is supposed to be a very accurate copy.

I guess it's just easier to ask then do a little homework on your own. As others have stated plenty around and they are easy to find.

No, I think it's fine. OP is looking for a Conn-branded mouthpiece, and needed assurance that the other 6.5ALs are the same thing.

I have a FAXX 6.5AL-L if the original poster is interstellar. Nice piece if the size works.
