Yamaha TBHS2 Leather Hand Strap

So I was reading old Trombonechat threads before rehearsal and I stumbled upon a 2nd type of Yamaha hand strap released a couple of years ago. I had no idea this existed!

Has anyone had luck importing one of these into the US? Anyone out there stateside who’d be open to making a knock off?

I used to religiously use leather specialties hand straps but when I switched over to my Raths they unfortunately don’t work too well due to there being no where to hook the strap onto securely. This new strap would solve that problem by not even having to hook around the leadpipe receiver! It would also help with not torquing your handslide.

I was able to snag one too! The seller apparently is only posting this item one at a time. Weird. I’ll see if it shows up!

Looks like Neotech without plastic clamps.
Will be waiting for reviews/opinions.

My new Yamaha strap is currently lost in transit. It’s bouncing around a couple different USPS hubs lol. Hopefully it shows up!

Sorry to hear, I got it yesterday. Tried it briefly with some different trombones and I like it. Like a cross between the old style strap and a Neotech. A pic with your old Holton bass:

looks like there are some holes on the bottom so you can strap it to your trombone and leave it attached (rather than taking it on and off every time). I'm going to buy one too. I use the neotech thing but its always felt way too bulky.

Could you share actual dimensions of it?
Length and width of center and ends.
Thank you in advance.

I received mine yesterday. It's good, but right now it's harder to get in and out of than the Leather Specialties strap. I'm going to keep using it when I practice to see what happens when as it softens up.

Dimensions: L115 mm x W 25 mm when folded and in closed position, which is quite small, but it’s easily adjustable for bigger hands. Lenght from end to end when unfolded is 290 mm.

Mine just showed up! You’re right Gabe it’s definitely hard to get in and out of. To get in and out of the strap you basically have to unstrap it every time.

For anyone wondering the strap mostly provides support on the back of your hand but not too much on that spot betweem your thumb and forefinger.

I’ll need to use it more to see what I think. I can confirm it works on my Raths with no issue and that’s a huge mega plus!

I’ve had a chance to use the strap for about a week and it feels a bit more broken in. I think the strap is a great alternative to a traditional leather specialties strap or other hand rest thingamagigs.

The strap has some pros and cons. I find this strap to be fantastic for straight tenors. The strap provides plenty of support for the back of your hand but there isn’t a ton of support in the crook of your thumb. I strongly suspect that this strap was designed for straight student trombones but instead is being marketed for all trombones.

With heavier F attachment tenors and bass trombones the strap is less effective but is better than nothing. I personally find a traditional strap to be provide more support. It’s also really tough to get your hand in and out of the strap. If you’re switching horns quickly for like a pit gig this might not be a good choice.

The neatest thing about the strap is you’ve got no torquing going on between the leadpipe receiver and bottom tubes.

All in all I recommend the strap with the catch that if you’re using it on bass trombone you might not find it as effective as other hand grips, straps or rests. If you own Rath trombones this strap does work!

I've also been using mine for about a week now and it's breaking in. I've also found the technique to get in and out of it pretty quickly, and I think it will be just as easy to use as the strap for the work I do.

I like it!
