I once had a shoulder strap break, dropping my Pro Pak (wood) hard case to the concrete below. Fortunately, nothing was damaged, and I found a new shoulder strap. But now I never trust it. It broke where the metal is very thin, at the rotation point which allows twisted straps to untwist themselves.

Are there beefier shoulder straps? Made of thicker or higher-quality metal? Plastic?
Should I be lubricating the twisty joint? The clasp hinge?
Should I just replace the strap every few years?

But, I think if I were looking for a very rugged option for a replacement shoulder strap, I might check out 2-point slings meant for firearms. Those are generally very heavy-duty, and commonly come with open ends that support various attachment hardware. You can get them in padded or unpadded versions, with either fixed or floating pads.

Install a cable tie between the buckle and the case as a backup

You see if the case could accommodate some of the newer MB straps, they use a tri-glide/Pull through system to secure to the bag. The strap itself would have to ripped for those to fail

I like the BAM straps. They attach with carabiners.

I had the exact same thing happen. This case has had some very serious miles on it, so I guess it's inevitable.
