I just found some videos with Charles Vernon. I recommend every one of you to see that amazing musician and trombone player. So inspiring to listen him talk and play. His humor, his honesty, his way of telling is surprising me because he don't make him self to a guru or a God. He is just a normal guy that tell us his thoughts. We all know he is the bass trombone player in the famous Chicago orchestra. Listen all that links down here. When he play those Bach cello suites. Most beautiful sarabande I ever listen from a trombone player. And he makes a joke when he don't remember all of it. And it sounds same beautiful when he plays it in a lower version. Amazing!
And his legato in that prelude! Amazing, and this probably just a cheep video recorder.
He use a lot of melodies even "Twinkle little star" in his practice! Something to think about. We don't have to just practice the most difficult sonata or concerto all the time.
I shouldn't say much more. Just watch our trombone "father" and watch it many times.
He is a little different from all the other famous players, no pointing finger or "I know everything". Just a regular honest man. And he is not afraid to show it. Maybe thats why he is great!

Re: Charles Vernon!
I’ve taken a few lessons with him over the last 8 months or so. I can attest that lessons with him are just as interesting as the videos on YouTube! One of the best musical experiences of my life was during my first lesson with him. He was just noodling on pedal notes, blasting at more F’s than I can count. All around great guy, with such a great sound. It’s truly amazing
